On May 23rd, Washington-based Maverick Gaming, a poker pioneer owned by Eric Persson, revealed an alliance with Rhode Island-based Bally’s Corporation to officially open the Maverick Gaming Poker Room, which will be located at the 66-year-old Strip resort.
However, the terms of the agreement were not revealed.
Grand opening in June:
Maverick is the current owner of 4 commercial casinos in Nevada, 3 in Colorado and 23 card rooms in Washington, which it achieved through working with tribal businesses, which shows that it is truly one of the pioneers of the industry. Commenting on the planned opening, Jeremy Weinstein, chief marketing officer for Maverick, said: “The company intends to capture players with twice-daily tournaments and the lowest rake – the commission paid to the casino on games – on the Strip.”
In addition, the poker room is slated to have a grand opening in June, with details on the opening date and time to be revealed soon. But that’s not all; as the room will be located adjacent to Bally’s Big Bet Poker livestream broadcast studio at the Tropicana.
The network’s showrunners and executive producers are responsible for the partnership:
The partnership was orchestrated by the network’s showrunners and executive producers of Bally’s Big Bet Poker livestream and television series, Houston Curtis and Rick Mahr of Outlaw Media Group, and supported by Maverick CEO Eric Persson, a poker player. In a statement, Arik Knowles, vice president and general manager of Tropicana Las Vegas, said: “We are very excited to be working with Mr. Persson and Maverick Gaming in an effort to also raise the stakes on inclusivity and affordability, treating players of all levels like VIPs at our tables.” Curtis added: “When Bally’s gave us the opportunity to expand the Bally’s Big Bet Poker brand to the Tropicana Las Vegas, we immediately thought of Eric as a tremendous asset, both on and off the felt. Persson’s industry expertise and proven ability to build successful poker rooms superbly aligns with Bally’s omni-channel network. Then, of course, there is Eric’s massive influence and appeal as a super high-stakes pro player.”
Furthermore, the room is projected to offer No Limit Hold ’Em games with $1 small blinds and $3 big blinds in one game and $2 small blinds with $5 big blinds in the other. As part of the entire upcoming poker room experience at the upcoming poker room, Eric Persson will be taking on deep stacked giants of the poker world at Bally’s Big Bet Poker® which will include world champions, cash game crushers, legendary sports stars and Hollywood celebrities.
Binding agreement:
Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. owns the Tropicana land, with the casino operated by Providence, Bally’s. Additionally, the both firms recently verified that “they have signed a binding agreement with the Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball team, which hopes to build a $1.5 billion, 30,000-seat baseball stadium with a retractable roof in a bid to relocate to Las Vegas.”
However, if that happens, Bally’s has emphasized that it will build a new resort and probably open it under the Bally’s brand name, as it has done with other facilities around the country. Right now, its largest venture is building a new casino in Chicago.
The legal status of online casinos in India is complex and varies by state. While there is no federal law that explicitly addresses online gambling, the legality depends on state regulations and the type of gambling involved.
Key Points:
-
No National Law: India does not have a specific national law regulating online casinos. However, the Public Gambling Act of 1867 prohibits operating physical casinos and gambling houses, but it doesn't cover online platforms, leaving a legal grey area for online gambling.
-
State-Specific Laws: Some Indian states, like Goa, Sikkim, and Daman, have legalized land-based casinos, and others, such as Sikkim, have also licensed online gambling. Many states have banned gambling altogether, including online gambling.
-
Online Sports Betting: Betting on sports, particularly cricket, is very popular in India. However, it's only explicitly legal in some states like Sikkim and Nagaland, which have laws permitting online gaming and betting.
-
Legal Gray Area: Many international online casinos accept Indian players and operate legally under licenses from offshore jurisdictions (like Curacao or the UK Gambling Commission). As long as players are gambling on licensed platforms, the risk is minimal, but local authorities may still choose to regulate or restrict online gambling.
-
Cryptocurrency: Some Indian players prefer using cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin) for online gambling, as it provides a layer of anonymity and security.
While online casinos aren't explicitly legal across all of India, many international casinos accept Indian players, and online gambling continues to grow in popularity. Players should ensure they use licensed platforms and understand local laws before engaging in online gaming.
