The renovations on the Londoner Macao are finally over, and the Cotai Strip integrated resort prepared a grand celebration to present the new, upgraded version of itself.

Grand celebration:

The renovation of this British-themed resort lasted for two years, and Las Vegas Sands finally got the chance to present it to many VIP guests.

The Journey Begins, as the name of the event says. The event celebrated the beginning of Sands China Ltd.’s gaming concession, which will last for ten years as well. The company promised a huge investment of US$3.7 billion (MOP 30.2 billion) to fund the expenses of the city and its development.

Many celebrities were on Macau’s red carpet, the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic affected the industry. Among the guests was David Beckham, a Sands global ambassador.

Many artists of various professions were hired to embellish the night. Among them was Lang Lang, a famous Chinese pianist; G.E.M., a singer from Hong Kong, as well as Ayanga, a famous Chinese actor and musical theater vocalist and artist. At the end of the night, after the campaign “Be My Guest” was presented to guests, they had a chance to enjoy the magnificent dinner, and during the dinner performed, famous British jazz legend Jamie Cullum.

The celebration exceeded expectations. Sheldon G. Adelson, the Sands’ late CEO, and Chairman, wanted Cotai to become one of the world’s most famous destinations for gambling and leisure activities, and it seems he finally succeeded.

British-inspired resort:

The renovated version of the Londoner Macao features five hotels, three spa centers, and four health clubs, as well as more than 20 restaurants and other dining options. For shopaholics, there are 150 boutiques, so nobody can get bored. Conference facilities are also renovated, with an enormous Londoner Arena with 6,000 seats.

The resort resembles Great Britain, with various amenities inspired by the most famous British cultural legacy. The façade is inspired by the Palace of Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. Also, the resort hosts the exact replica of Big Ben, which chimes every hour to add authenticity. Guards that imitate the famous Changing of the Guard performance are also trained to do the same thing in the resort. Many more amenities are inspired by British architecture, such as the Crystal Palace, Victoria Station in London, and Piccadilly Circus.

This is the newest addition to the group of Macau casino resorts inspired by European cities. There are already The Parisian Macao, The Venetian Macao, and The Plaza Macao.

Robert G. Goldstein, a CEO, and Chairman of the Las Vegas Sands, said: “Sands China has delivered on Sheldon Adelson’s vision through the ongoing development of Cotai. Where 250 acres of empty reclaimed land once sat, we have built one of the world’s leading tourist destinations with an incredible future ahead of it.”

Goldstein is sure that the renovation of the casino will help in improving the overall economy of Macau, especially the Cotai Strip.

The legal status of online casinos in India is complex and varies by state. While there is no federal law that explicitly addresses online gambling, the legality depends on state regulations and the type of gambling involved.

Key Points:

  • No National Law: India does not have a specific national law regulating online casinos. However, the Public Gambling Act of 1867 prohibits operating physical casinos and gambling houses, but it doesn't cover online platforms, leaving a legal grey area for online gambling.

  • State-Specific Laws: Some Indian states, like Goa, Sikkim, and Daman, have legalized land-based casinos, and others, such as Sikkim, have also licensed online gambling. Many states have banned gambling altogether, including online gambling.

  • Online Sports Betting: Betting on sports, particularly cricket, is very popular in India. However, it's only explicitly legal in some states like Sikkim and Nagaland, which have laws permitting online gaming and betting.

  • Legal Gray Area: Many international online casinos accept Indian players and operate legally under licenses from offshore jurisdictions (like Curacao or the UK Gambling Commission). As long as players are gambling on licensed platforms, the risk is minimal, but local authorities may still choose to regulate or restrict online gambling.

  • Cryptocurrency: Some Indian players prefer using cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin) for online gambling, as it provides a layer of anonymity and security.

While online casinos aren't explicitly legal across all of India, many international casinos accept Indian players, and online gambling continues to grow in popularity. Players should ensure they use licensed platforms and understand local laws before engaging in online gaming.
